The playful “Serenade to a Cuckoo” is Kirk’s best-¬known song. It was made popular by the British rock band Jethro Tull, whose leader, Ian Anderson, was influenced by Kirk and duplicated his way of singing into his flute as he was playing it. Reply

Nov 15,  · serenade to a cuckoo Here's the link to that Roland Kirk video. (Seems embedding is disabled.) I've got Kirk's all flute album, I Talk To The Spirits and I have to say that I prefer the way Ian Anderson plays the head of the tune over Kirk. As far as the solo (on This Was), it's pretty obvious that Ian was "bluffing" his way through. Reply

Jun 01,  · The poll-winning trombonist Steve Turre, who served several stints in Kirk’s bands, assembled a group featuring multi-reedist James Carter for the Kirk tribute album, The Spirits Up Above (HighNote), and led the all-star band last December at Saint Peter’s Church in New York City that paid tribute to Kirk close to the 30th anniversary. May 07,  · Whether kirk uses his flutes to create lilting soundscapes like "trees" and "i talk with the spirits",swinging show tunes, or deep blues the album always works a jolxapazakidteecalfugenonesspron.coinfo key moment though has to be the insanely joyful and catchy "serenade to a cuckoo" which even my 3 year old son loves with a passion/5(11).
