In they shook up their personnel, changed their name to Aorta and embraced psychedelia, issuing their debut album the following spring. An ambitious psychedelic suite, it alternates between mellow and heavier sounds, with some intense fuzz guitar and sound effects, and stands as one of the best major label psych LPs of the late s.". Aorta signed to Dunwich Productions, a company formed by Bill Traut, and the single was leased for release on Atlantic Records. Under Traut's management, the band were then signed to Columbia Records to record an album. Their first LP was produced by Traut and Donlinger. Reply

LP, Vinyl record album. A lost heavy rock classic from the Dunwich Production team – recorded in Michigan, but with extra orchestral backing in Chicago – for an approach that gives the record a slightly pop quality that tempers the harder rock sound nicely. The songs are actually pretty catchy, in a post-Summer Of Love pop mode – and titles include "Magic Bed", "What's In My Mind's Eye", "Heart Brand: Columbia (Label). Reply

In truth, Aorta sound more like a few other keyboard-heavy rock acts of their day, especially Three Dog Night and Argent. The only single taken from the LP was "Strange" (an edited version of the track issued earlier by Atlantic) b/w the wonderfully titled "Ode to Missy Mxyzosptlk." Aorta 's album ended up peaking at around number and remained on Billboard's charts for a respectable six weeks. Reply

"Aorta" is one of the best LPs ever recorded, a psych-pop masterpiece which deserved a far wider audience that it achieved. Issued on Columbia in , it was not well promoted but still managed to chart and then remain in print (as an LP) for over ten years, far longer than most LPs of its genre/5(49). Reply
